Parasha Thoughts

Dovid Kohen

By Rabbi David Cohen

On the last days of Passover we celebrate one of the greatest moments in Jewish history, Kiriyat Yam Suf. In fact, Chazal tell us the miracles were so great that a maidservant saw more of Hashem’s glory at the Yam Suf then the Prophet Yechezkel ben Buzi saw throughout his life.

In the Haggadah there is a Machloket as to how many miracles actually occurred. What’s the point of the Machloket? What difference does it make how many miracles Hashem actually performed for us? Chazal tell us that we need to know how many miracles because the greater the number, the more indebted we are to Hashem. This is a tremendous insight. Real Hakarat Hatov demands that we investigate goodness done to our ancestors so we can thank Hashem NOW for every detail.

May we continue to realize the miracles (hidden and open) that Hashem continues to perform for us, our friends and families, and our ancestors.

Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach.
