As Pesach approaches, we must keep in mind what the Gemara teaches us. A person’s income is set on Rosh Hashanah, exactly how much he will receive that year, except for the expenses of Shabbat, Yom Tov, children’s Torah education..if he spends more, he’ll receive more.
This means to say the expenses of Yom Tov are on the house. Chacham Yitzhak Yosef said regarding exclusive matzos which cost more because of the higher standards, the money you spent will return to as it’s an expense of Yom Tov.
It should be noted that there is a real issue of bugs in lettuce. All the Hashgacha agencies require special methods to clean them. Simply washing them under a strong stream of water does not suffice. Chacham Ovadia zatzal saw someone purchase regular lettuce before Pesach. He asked him how he plans to clean it. He said he has a powerful faucet; the bugs will run for their lives! Chacham Ovadia asked him to bring him the lettuce after he cleaned it. Afterwards, Chacham Ovadia put them on a clean white sheet in the sun. As it warmed up, one could see many little green bugs crawling on the sheet..
One could check their website for the method of cleaning. The stores sell pre checked lettuce from RCC or other agencies. It obviously costs more, but the expense is covered. Hashem will pay you back for every cent spent in honor of Yom Tov. It’s guaranteed!
