Parshat Ekev

By Rabbi Aharon Seleh

In this week’s Parsha, Moshe Rabbenu implores Klal Yisrael to grow in their love and fear of Hashem. The Sefornu questions, How does one improve in fear of Hashem? Reflect on Hashem’s greatness. How does one come to love Hashem? Reflect on Hashem’s good ways. Look at all the tremendous good Hashem is constantly doing to us, as individuals. Chovos Levavos states that Hashem’s tremendous goodness is overwhelming, but most of us are blind to noticing it, unfortunately. Why is this? the Chovos Levavos asks? We fail to notice Hashem’s goodness due to 3 reasons. 1. We are born into such goodness, we take it for granted 2. We are always wanting more and more, we fail to appreciate what we already have 3. The challenges we are given in order to spur us to develop our full potential cause us to focus on the negative and miss all the positives. By taking a minute to appreciate the tremendous brachos we have in our lives; loving Hashem will then flow easily and naturally.
