The Chag of Sukkot is known as Zman Simchateinu. A time of Joy. The question is why specifically during these joyous times are we asked to leave our houses and dwell in a sukkah? The answer is real Joy is being connected to Hashem and to His Holiness. The Medrash says before praying that Torah should become a part of us, we should first pray not to overindulge in the pleasures of this world. Whenone is continuously chasing all the pleasures of the world, its impossible to connect to anything Holy. Moderation is of essence. After Yom kippur when we are cleansed of our sins, we dwell in the sukkah to truly connect to Hashem.
