Parasha Thoughts

By Rabbi Shlomo Zargari

וְהָיָה֩ לְךָ֨ לְא֜וֹת עַל־יָדְךָ֗ וּלְזִכָּרוֹן֙ בֵּ֣ין עֵינֶ֔יךָ

“And this shall serve you as a sign on your arm and a reminder on your forehead.”
(Shemot 13,9)

The טור ושולחן ערוך אורח חיים כ״ה writes: as a person places the Tefillin on himself, he must have in mind that HaShem commanded us to wrap ourselves with these four portions of the Torah, which contain the uniqueness of His Name and the Exodus from Egypt. They should be placed on the arm opposite the heart and on the head against the brain so that we should remember the miracles and wonders which He performed for us. They show His uniqueness and that He has the power and dominion over the upper world and the lower world to do with them as He wishes. In view of this, one will subject himself to the Holy One Blessed be He with his soul which is situated in the brain and the heart which is the root of the desires and his thoughts. In this manner one will remember the Creator and confine his indulgence.

Just a reminder…
